Friday Night Lights-Out (and other Chargers stuff)

(Wow, I’m impressed with myself over that title!)

Shawne Merriman had missed practice earlier this week due to an illness.  Flu-like symptoms, he asserts he caught from Antonio Cromartie (after laughing at Cro for being sick….tsk tsk.)  Luckily they are both feeling better, and Merriman along with Norv Turner, Billy Volek, Shaun Phillips, Stephen Cooper, Luis Castillo and Chris Chambers all had several things to say about their upcoming “rematch” against the Patriots.  Read more here.

Injury Update:

LaDainian Tomlinson’s knee apparently isn’t giving him any problems, as he is not even mentioned on the injury report (a very good thing!)

Philip Rivers managed to take 1/3 of the snaps in practice late this week and is confident he will play Sunday as well.  Volek is ready to go just in case.  (Although I see nothing wrong with throwing a little tag-teaming QB scheme into the mix Sunday.)

Antonio Gates and Jamal Williams still have not practiced; however, this really doesn’t mean much.  (Isn’t Tom Brady still “probable” on the Patriots’ injury report….like he’s been all season?!?)  But like I have stated on many occasions, these guys are studs and true professionals, and will play if needed.

Has anyone read the new Sporting News?  Well, on page 34, Clifton Brown offers an interesting read entitled “Here’s a nod to Norv.”  I won’t reiterate this fabulous article.  Suffice it to say that I am not the only person on the planet (besides my favorite groupie Steve) who thinks the Chargers have a legitimate shot Sunday.

Did you know?

That Wes Welker was a Charger at the onset of his career (2004 undrafted free agent.)  But, alas, the Chargers cut him to make roster room for Clinton Hart.  Wouldn’t it be great/funny/awesome/poetic/(add your favorite adjective here) if Hart would snag a few passes intended for Welker on Sunday?

Apparently Bill Belicheat, er Belichick, doesn’t like our “San Diego Super Chargers” song.  In his words, “I hate that song…The first time I heard that song was when I was with the Giants. We played out there and they had [Wes] Chandler, they had [Chuck] Muncie, they had [Kellen] Winslow, [John] Jefferson, [Chuck] Faucette, and it was a track meet. They didn’t get through playing that song before they had scored again and they started playing it again. It was… San Diego Super Chargers, that’s still ringing in my head.”

Merriman has very different feelings about the song.  “Any time they play it, we’re doing something good,” Merriman said. “I love hearing it.”

Perhaps Bill would rather listen to “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.”  After all, he should have been wearing green on the cover of Sports Illustrated instead of that Santa suit.

You Know I LOVE Him!

According to Norv, “Vincent Jackson is playing as good as any guy I’ve been around through the last six or seven weeks, and obviously the last two games,” Turner said. “You talk about stepping up in big games, he was unbelievable (Sunday).”

Go get ‘em Vinnie!!  (And read more accolades here.)

A Final Funny

So, my husband is having knee surgery next week (and our orthopedic surgeon is a Patriots fan too, so I don’t mind talking smack now, because he’s already done my knee, LOL.)  Anyway, he had some blood work which came back with elevated levels of creatine in his blood, but not in his urine.  (Too much information?  Then stop reading!)  Anyway, I deduced that the extreme amounts of Monster energy drinks he consumes probably created this situation, since it’s chock full of amino acids.

Which got me thinking:  Wow, this is a Merriman moment.  Consuming legitimate “supplements” have led to a false positive of a potentially dangerous condition.  Now, it’s not like Merriman admitted to being a known ‘roid user (a la Rodney Harrison, voted, by the way, “the dirtiest player in the NFL” by OTHER PLAYERS!!!)  Just kind of interesting, if you ask me.

Is he yelling plays or at the fans?!?  Go get ‘em Riv….be passionate, and put those Pats’ fans in their place!!
