GAMEDAY!!

Here it is!  The big game (so far anyway.)

Interestingly, both games are a rematch from Week 2 this season.  Green Bay beat New York 35-13, and New England beat San Diego 38-14.

I was watching Gameday on NFL Network this morning.  Trent Dilfer was illustrating the injury to Philip Rivers’ knee and how it may affect his passing game as he tends to utilize his back and legs to propel the ball down the field, as opposed to using pure upper body and arm strength.  Then, a cut to Rivers entering the field at Foxboro where he was walking fine.  Yes, he is starting today, and hopefully the O-line will keep him from being sacked to preserve the knee.  Well, that and some gooooood drugs.

Rich Eisen, Deion Sanders, and Steve Mariucci also “chatted up” Rivers’ proclivity for ”verbal exchanges” with fans and opposing team members.  Much to my surprise (as I have no problem with his big mouth - I, after all, have one myself) the discussion revolved around how he is a passionate, emotional guy and there’s nothing wrong with this.  Specifically, the fans in Indy who caught the brunt of Rivers’ discourse were taunting and jawing at him.  Like I’ve said, if anyone is provoked enough, even a mild-mannered, church-going, father of three daughters, good ole Southern boy.  They further addressed how he has been being playing, and his career as a starter (25-7 in the regular season, 2-1 in the postseason) gives him the right to be respected, which he really isn’t at this time.  Critics whine telling him to “shut up and put up”; however, he HAS.  And if the Chargers win today, I hope he lets it rip!!

Anyway, let’s just hope that the awesome defense of San Diego manages to turn the ball over many times, stop the Pats’ running game AND sack Tom Brady.  Let’s hope that the Chargers can establish their running game early, to open up Rivers for some awesome passes.  Let’s hope that Nate Kaeding doesn’t miss any FGs.  Let’s hope Darren Sproles can get a few returns for TDs.  Let’s hope Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers outplay Randy Moss and Wes Welker.  Let’s hope Norv pulls out all the stops and gets the win today!

LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates will start today as well.

An interesting aside:  I’m glad former Chief and Dolphin (and Chargers, by the way because we did draft him) QB Trent Green did retire for his health, and I was LMAO-ing that they sent him to Green Bay to cover the game.  Poor guy, he has icicles forming in his nostrils.

Oh, and speaking about the cold.  I have to laugh regarding the statements everyone seems to make regarding how the weather will make a difference for a ‘warm weather’ team like the Chargers.  Wait a minute, first of all the Bolts are a relatively young team.  Secondly, not all of them attended USC, Hawaii, or Florida.  They went to Northwestern (Castillo), Maryland (Merriman), Western Illinois (Scifres), Wisconsin (Chambers), Iowa (Kaeding), Utah (Weddle), Maine (Cooper), UNC (No. Colorado - Jackson), and Purdue (Phillips and Hardwick) to name a few.  So calling a team a warm-weather team, to me, is ridiculous.  Secondly, yes, the cold and wind will affect the passing game…hear that Brady?!?

Good luck guys!!!

Charger_Girl, love your informative and amusing blog! This Packer fan is rooting hard for your team. Of course, that’ll change when you DO knock off the Patsies, lol. Glad to know that Rivers, Gates, and LT are all playing. And yes, even us God-fearing (cough), polite Southerners get provoked now and then. GO BOLTS!
