The Chargers released WR coach James Lofton after 6 seasons in San Diego and hired ex-Charger, WR great and all-time franchise leader (so far) Charlie Joiner! Joiner is pleased to be back in San Diego, to say the least. Since leaving the Bolts in 1991 he has spent the past 16 years coaching in Kansas City and Buffalo.
Also fired is RB coach Matt Simon, who had been in San Diego since 2007. No replacement has been identified as of this date.

Philip Rivers underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL on Wednesday, and now has 4-6 months of “aggressive therapy” to get ready for next season. In a similar vein, my husband is having his knee scoped Friday morning and, hopefully, will be ready to return to work in a week (presumably before I lose what little of my sanity remains.)

More props to LaDainian Tomlinson as he was selected the Chargers’ MVP and Offensive Player of the Year, both for the 5th time. “Mr. INT” Antonio Cromartie garnered the Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Other honors went to Kassim Osgood, Special Teams Player of the Year; Kris Dielman, Lineman of the Year; Philip Rivers & Carlos Polk, Most Inspirational Players of the Year. Well done, gentlemen!!

I owe LT a HUGE public apology for my rant after the game last week and references to his not playing. The sprained knee he suffered takes weeks to heal, and it certainly wasn’t fair of me (or anyone else) to question his toughness trying to play a mere week after the injury.

And speaking of the loss in the AFC Championship Game, the Chargers’ coaching staff will be coaching the AFC in the Pro Bowl this year. Norv Turner says his kids are excited.

Good Answer: When asked for whom he would be rooting in the Super Bowl, Norv said, ““The suddenness of not being in it, I haven’t given much thought as to who I’m pulling for.”
