Michael “The Burner” Turner has signed a very nice 6-year, $34.5 million contract with a guarantee of $15 million with the team-who-can’t-keep-a-coach (isn’t Marty still unemployed?) For a team who has been having trouble passing the ball, Turner will undoubtedly be extremely valuable for the Falcon organization. With the addition of Turner and Jerious Norwood remaining in Atlanta, Warrick Dunn has been released. Now a free agent, only time will tell where he will end up. Dunn is reported to have “plans to sign with a playoff contender” and has spoken to Indianapolis and Tampa Bay so far and is still the reigning Home Depot NFL MVP.
Speaking of Atlanta, stud TE Alge Crumpler is going to Tennessee for at least the next 2 seasons.
Recently released Charger Marlon McCree is visiting Cincinnati this week.
Pittsburgh has extended QB Ben Roethlisberger’s contract for 8 years and a SICK $102 million ($36 million guaranteed), making him the highest paid player in Steelers’ history as well as one of the richest NFL players today. Personally, I don’t feel he is worth that kind of money, particularly with his poor choices during the offseason and his less-than-stellar play last season; pretty similar to the insane contract extension that Jerry Jones gave to Dallas QB Tony Romo. What is wrong with letting a player prove himself prior to signing such an exorbitant contract? I’m sorry, but 3 years really is not long enough to determine a player’s long-term worth (particularly one who is foolish enough to ride a motorcycle without a helmet.) But I digress.
Speaking of sick amounts of money, ex-Steeler-now-Jet Pro Bowl G Alan Faneca is now the highest paid offensive lineman in history, with a 5-year, $40 million ($21 million guaranteed) contract.
Broncos CB Champ Bailey’s younger brother, Detroit free agent LB Boss Bailey, will be visiting Denver this week with the hopes of playing on the same team as big bro. Also, K Jason Elam, a free agent as well, has scheduled visits to Seattle, Kansas City, and Atlanta as his career in Denver appears to be over.
Chicago LB Lance Briggs, who was angry after having the franchise tag slapped upon him last year, has signed a 6-year, $36 million deal to remain a Bear. Despite the ill will of the last two years, questions about Brian Urlacher’s health has prompted the Bears organization to really want to keep Briggs around. Apparently money CAN buy happiness (or at least a little loyalty.)
Carolina Panther WR Drew Carter is visiting with the Raiders organization this week (don’t do it Drew!!)
New England DB Eugene Wilson is off to chat with Tampa Bay.
And as always, stay tuned for more news and highly opinionated commentary from yours truly.

(Good luck Michael. You will be missed!)

As much as I hate to see Turner leave, I’m glad he went to Atlanta. The stupid money the Steelers threw to Big Ben, I hope it comes back to bite them in the …
