Well, surprise, surprise, Brett Favre has officially retired after a phenomenal 17-year career. Favre’s cited reasons for choosing to retire now, despite getting so close to the Super Bowl again, is that he is mentally tired and wants to spend more time with his family….a great reason to me, anyway. Of course he can still physically play, but if it’s not fun and fulfilling, then it is time to move on. Good luck to Brett and his family. Personally, I think he would be a great commentator, but only time will tell.
Who spiked Arthur Blank’s Metamucil? After the fabulous move to sign stud RB ex-Charger Michael Turner, the Falcons are in self-destruct mode or so it seems. Atlanta waived RB Warrick Dunn, free agent TE Alge Crumpler defected to Tennessee, and now both QBs Byron Leftwich and Joey Harrington have been cut, leaving backup to backup Chris Redman as the man under center. Redman had already been re-signed. All this leaves one thought in my mind, will the Falcons go after a veteran QB to start or as a mentor for Redman? And speaking of Dunn, he has expressed interest in Tampa Bay or Dallas thus far. As for Dallas, RB Julius Jones is en route to chat with Detroit.
Houston backup QB Sage Rosenfels is being pursued by Minnesota. Rosenfels played well last season after Matt Schaub’s injury made him miss several games.
New Orleans thinks TE Jeremy Shockey would make a great Saint.
Bill Parcells is denying that DE Jason Taylor is primed to leave Miami; but we all have learned not to put too much stock in what the Big Tuna spouts.
Current Chief CB Ty Law may be looking to return to New England; particularly with the losses the Patriots have had on defense this free agency season.
Ex-Bronco WR Javon Walker signed a 6-year, $55 million contract with the Oakland Raiders; a contract that will give Walker $16 million more in guaranteed money than the Pats’ Randy Moss. Oakland has given out over $144 million in contracts since last week (hey Al Davis, I could really use an extra $35,000 right now.) Only time will tell if the Raiders’ generosity will improve the team.
Ex-Dolphin WR Marty Booker is back in Chicago. After losing both Mushin Muhammed and Bernard Berrian, the Bears were in dire need of a receiver and Booker, Miami’s leading receiver last season after the loss of Chris Chambers to San Diego, became the go-to guy.
FS Marlon McCree has visited the Bills, and is now going to talk to Denver. Ex-Charger McCree wants to play for either of those two teams (hopefully, Buffalo.)
Ex-Charger/Chief/Dolphin QB and concussion king Trent Green is going to St. Louis for a chat. If he cares, I think he should retire and remain a commentator before scrambling his brains beyond recognition. Goodness knows we don’t need another Troy Aikman running around now, do we?
