In a nutshell, speaking at the 16th annual African-American Youth Leadership Conference in his hometown of Colorado Springs, CO, Vincent Jackson addressed youth regarding the importance of hard work and leadership. Drawing on his background and ciruitous road to the NFL: from cleaning hotel rooms in high school to getting fabulous grades to deciding to play college football at a smaller school than he had originally desired.
“You got to earn what you want,” Jackson said. “You have to work for what you want in life. I’m no stranger to work, I’m not a guy who likes to take the easy route. I don’t mind working.”
This statement was evident upon his return to the Springs during the offseason. Taking a “mini vacation” is not his style. Instead, he personally hand-signed 500 of his football cards to distribute to the youth who showed up as a gift…a gift crafted by his own mind and heart.
