The Chula Vista City Council, in their infinite wisdom, voted unanimously to proceed with plans to build a new Chargers stadium in their fine city.
These plans are twofold: first, a comprehensive financial analysis of the two proposed sites to ascertain economic feasibility (What? I DID graduate college, ya know!!) as well as trying to see if the proposed $1.2 million cost can be privately funded (I wonder if “The Donald” is a Chargers fan.) Anyway, one site is a 130-acre bayfront parcel, while the other encompasses 500 acres on the east side of town. The Chargers are funding these feasibility studies, which will be managed by Patrick Gibbons of GCI Advisors, Inc. (have some FREE advertising Pat!)
The second track of the Chargers’ effort, as so eloquently stated in the unique lawyer-speak of Chargers Special Counsel Mark Fabiani, “will determine whether it is likely that the State of California will announce at some point in the foreseeable future a firm shutdown date for the bay front power plant.” (On a sidebar - nice segue, eh - I think Governor Ahhhhhnold may have a few million stashed away for a rainy day.)
Anyway, after 6 years and over $10 million of the Spanos’ own cash gone (ouch!), redeveloping Qualcomm has officially been tanked; which of course is a good thing, particularly with the impending financial ruin of the city of San Diego under the “leadership” of completely oblivious city officials…but, as usual, I digress.
Let’s just hope the Chargers get a new stadium in Chula Vista very soon. I really don’t want to move to San Antonio; however, Birmingham might be nice if not for the humidity. Besides, my husband has tons o’family in Alabama.

I too hope the Bolts stay in San Diego and not move….I’ve fallen in love with them as the San Diego Chargers and can’t imagine them anywhere else but there.
