The Making of a Champion

A nice little blurb in the latest issue of Sporting News (3/31/2008) on page 39 discusses how Darren Sproles turned the tragedy of his 2006 season-ending broken leg into phenomenal success last year.  In addition to rehabilitation, Sproles practiced fielding punts…amounting to nearly 2,000 punts in the offseason, 4 times per week during practice.

As a result, “the little guy” did not muff one single punt during the 2007 season.

Needless to say, he will be continuing with this apparently successful regime during this offseason.

In a related story, I keep forgetting to mention the parallel between my daughters’ cats and Sproles.  One of them, named Snowflake, started his life as a tiny little thing, but has since grown (in his 8 months) into a very strong, lithe, and athletic feline.  So, my daughters have lovingly bestowed the nickname of Snowflake to Sproles.  In fact, I have been caught on occasion cheering, “Go Snowflake, er, I mean Sproles!!!” during the course of a game (although he is often called “Snowdude” also…the cat, I mean, not Sproles.)
