Some Pre-Draft Trivia

According to nfl.com, here are the Top 10 Draft Trades in History:

1.  1985 - The 49ers trade up for Jerry Rice.  (I highly agree with this one.)

2.  1999 - The Rams trade 2nd and 5th round draft picks to Indianapolis for Marshall Faulk.  (As a SDSU alumnus, high fives all around for this one as well.)

3.  1987 - The 49ers trade 2nd and 4th round draft picks to Tampa Bay for Steve Young.  (Seeing how he engineered a 49-26 victory over San Diego in Super Bowl XXIX, I’m not particularly thrilled discussing this.)

4.  1999 - The Saints trade 8 players to Washington to enable them to move up and select Ricky Williams.  (I think my opinion in this matter is better left unsaid.)

5.  1977 - Seattle traded the 2nd pick to Dallas in exchange for 4 picks.  Oh, and Dallas selected Tony Dorsett.  (Great move Dallas!)

6.  2001 - Between Atlanta and San Diego, #1 Michael Vick to the Falcons for #5 LaDainian Tomlinson to the Chargers.  (#6??  Come on!!!  At any rate, the rest, shall we say, is history.)

7.  1990 - The Colts trade 4 players to Atlanta for Jeff George.  (Last I checked, he’s still available to play at 40 y/o.  But of course, he already played for, what, half the teams in the league during his career??!)

8.  1970 - Miami gets Paul Warfield and the Dolphins have the ONLY perfect season two years later.  (Yup, New England….the ONLY perfect season.  Nice try last year, though.)

9.  1996 - Pittsburgh trades 2 picks to get the Bus - Jerome Bettis.  (I love him…he’s such a cute teddy-bear type; a LOT like Lorenzo Neal, whom I already miss.)

10. 2004 - San Diego takes the whining Eli Manning and trades him to the reigning, cough, Super Bowl, ack, champs, ahem, NY Giants in exchange for Philip Rivers, #4 overall,  and three more picks.  (Remember kids, this is the draft that landed the Chargers Igor Olshanksy, Nate Kaeding, Nick Hardwick, Shawn Phillips, Michael Turner, Ryan Krause, Ryon Bingham, and Shane Olivea, among others.)
