Lo and behold, the Chargers did some fancy footwork, trading a 5th round pick in this year’s draft (#160) and a 2nd round pick in the 2009 draft to mortal enemy New England for the chance to select LSU RB Jacob Hester (a distant cousin of Terry Bradshaw, no less) with the 69th pick overall.
Hester is multi-talented, much like the rest of the Chargers backfield (LT, Sproles, Pinnock.) He can run, block, play special teams, and will likely fill the gaping void left by stud Michael Turner, who will finally get his starting position and considerable playing time in Atlanta (even moreso with Atlanta selecting Boston College QB Matt Ryan with the 3rd pick of the draft - gotta love those young QBs.)
Hester was excited about being chosen in the 3rd round and especially happy it was the Chargers who selected him. Says Hester, “I’m just so excited to be a Charger” and “I’m definitely excited about the chance to play for a winner.” Quite the breath of fresh air after, well, you know, the whiner that is Eli Manning (I don’t care one iota about his ring.)
Of course, the Chargers won’t have many picks this year, having dealt a 2nd rounder to Miami to acquire Chris Chambers mid-season last year as well as trading a 6th rounder for Eric Weddle in last year’s draft; in addition to CB Paul Oliver as a result of last year’s supplemental draft.

Looks like the Chargers did well in the draft. I’m excited to see how well these young guys play.
