News and Musings

Following a successful mini-camp, the Chargers are now participating in their voluntary offseason coaching sessions, or OCS, for the next several weeks, emphasizing techniques and getting ready for official training camp and the upcoming 2008 season (for which I can barely wait!)

Philip Rivers is making phenomenal progress after his ACL reconstruction, while the other post-op Bolts are taking it easy and recovering nicely.

By the way, my knee is healing nicely…for those of you following my progress as well.  I do have a cool scar running across the back of my knee now; although probably not as cool as Rivers’.

Anyway, Coach Norv is pleased with the team’s progress thus far, and will be postponing his vacation this summer from late June to probably late July instead.  Wherever and whenever you go Norv, have a great time!

Former 2004, 6th round draft pick TE Ryan Krause has signed a free agency contractwith the Houston Texans for the 2008 season.  Hey Ryan, say “Hi” to Owen Daniels for me, OK?!?

Experts have compiled a list of “who/what to watch” this offseason:

1.  Rivers and his knee.  Already discussed.

2.  Rookie Jacob Hester - a veritable Jack of all trades!  Can’t wait to see what Norv has in store for him!!

3.  2nd year DB Paul Oliver - a CB in college; however, the Chargers are “experimenting” with him at safety, behind Eric Weddle and Clinton Hart.

4.  Nick Hardwick, Andrew Pinnock, Antonio Gates and Eric Parker all recovering from injuries.  Parker was a favorite target of Rivers in 2006, but missed all last season.

5.  Youngsters TE Scott Chandler and LB Anthony Waters (drafted last year) are poised to do big things this season.  Keep an eye on them!
