 Chargers 31, Cowboys 17

Following the 2nd play sack of Philip Rivers, he said his knee felt fine, allowing Chargers fans to breathe a collective sigh.  In fact, it’s almost as if he didn’t undergo surgery for his torn ACL in the off-season. Yay!!

Please pardon the interruption mid blog here:  I’m watching the Olympics and the men’s 4 x 100 freestyle relay.  Michael Phelps led the first leg of the race (breaking the American record for the split), then the French led and extended their lead in the 2nd and 3rd legs by nearly half a second, but 3-time Olympian Jason Lezak, the anchor man, crushed the world record for both the split and the race itself (3:08.24) to edge out the French and win the gold by 8/100ths of a second!!  OMG, if you get a chance to catch this replay, do so!!!  And you can read more here.  Congrats American men!!

Oh, and how did Cris Collinsworth get Olympic commentator detail??

Back to the Bolts.  The Chargers were able to continue their domination from last season last night by protecting the ball, creating turnovers, and all this committing just one penalty.  San Diego’s special teams were impressive as well, giving all Chargers fans a hopeful glimpse into the rest of the season.  Yeah, yeah, I know preseason doesn’t mean much but that’s record-wise.  It means a heck of a lot for player assessment.

And the rookies looked fabulous!  Jacob Hester and Antoine Cason had very impressive first outings.  I look forward to seeing more of them!  Hester says that the first player he blocked was Zach Thomas and “Once you do that, nothing really worries you anymore.”  Good attitude!!
