Rantings from around the league

First of all, who else is sick to death of Peyton and Eli Manning commercials?  Every other freaking commercial on NFL Network, ESPN, and even during the Olympics on NBC is the Mannings.  Enough already!!!

Secondly, Cardinal stud WR Anquan Boldin is very unhappy in Arizona and is requesting a trade.  (As I just wrote a whole spiel on that in my other blog, please click here if you’d like to read it.)

OK…now on to the fairly serious injuries plaguing players during the preseason:

Bengals WR Chad Johnson had a momentary separated shoulder and is likely to miss the rest of the preseason.

Giants DE Osi Umenyiora sacked Browns QB Derek Anderson giving him a concussion.  He, too, is likely to miss the rest of the preseason.

Patriots QB Tom Brady apparently has a new foot injury; not the one that was plaguing him in the offseason.  Bill Belichick wants Brady to play it safe and sit out the remainder of the preseason.

Minnesota QB Tarvaris Jackson sprained his right knee.  A bit early in the season for Jackson to be hurt already, but, frankly, not unexpected.  (Boy, I’m glad I had the foresight to drop Bernard Berrian for the Texans’ Kevin Walter in one of my fantasy leagues!)  Whew, Brett Favre evaded Madden curse injury potential #1 by going to New York, huh??

Other news:

Kyle Orton won the Bears starting QB job (so far anyway).  I sympathize with all Bears fans as the choice between Orton and Rex Grossman is reminiscent of the Chargers having to choose between Ryan Leaf and Craig Whelihan in the late 1990s (ugh!)

Oh, hey, here’s some indirect Chargers news:  Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck is expected to play against the Bolts on Monday 8/25 in San Diego after suffering a stiff back about 10 days ago.  I’m sure a few hits by Merriman, Phillips, Weddle, et al. will work those kinks right out of it, as well as any chiropractor.

New Saint TE Jeremy Shockey wants to play against the Bengals in New Orleans’ next preseason game.  Suffering a broken leg with the Giants, he missed the Super Bowl run and is itching to play.

Jeremy Shockey a Saint, John Lynch a Patriot, Asante Samuel an Eagle, Lorenzo Neal a Raven, Chad Pennington a Dolphin, Brett Favre a Jet, concussion-king Trent Green is a Ram, Julius Jones a Seahawk, Michael Turner a Falcon, DJ Hackett a Panther, Alge Crumpler a Titan, Isaac Bruce a 49er, and the list goes on and on and on…..is there no loyalty anymore?  Sigh.
