Woot!!

Stud TE Antonio Gates, who started training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform List passed his physical on Tuesday and was able to participate in team drills.  While not likely to play in either of the Chargers 2 remaining preseason games, he should (hopefully) be ready to go by week 1 vs. Carolina on 9/7 (I will be at that game!)

Equally-studly DE Luis Castillo, who hasn’t seen any on-field action this preseason due to a sore back, also returned to practice and is likely to play a bit on Monday night’s preseason game vs. Seattle.

LB Shawne Merriman, er studly-LB Shawne Merriman went to Alabama earlier this week to have his knee re-examined after undergoing surgery to repair some torn cartilage 5 months ago.  Apparently he has had lingering pain in the knee and wants to take care of it prior to the start of the regular season.  Boy, can I relate.  I had my cartilage repair arthroscopy last September, then had an additional surgery (with a pretty scar all the way across the back of my knee) on the same knee in February to remove a cyst and remove other soft tissue which was still in the joint.  Hopefully it isn’t anything that can’t be quickly and easily remedied.
