Chargers 17, Cardinals 6
Fun game, great seats!  Check out the pics…
The first string looked great (except for Philip Rivers’ 4 sacks by an impressive Cardinals’ defense.)  Rivers managed 5-7, 116 yds. Actually, Billy Volek looked awesome (I’m still asserting that he play in Pittsburgh!) LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles played much of the first quarter again [...]

With respect to LaDainian Tomlinson, anyway, that there hasn’t been any publicized progress, or lack thereof, in the whole contract negotiation thing seems to bode well for LT staying in San Diego; however, neither LT or AJ Smith are saying much.
Free Agency:
The Chargers were relatively quiet over the first day of free agency, but they [...]

Chargers 32, Saints 37
Hey guys, 14 penalties for 134 yds is not going to win you any games (despite some of those unwarranted due to horrible refereeing by Tony Corrente, who apparently attended the Ed Hochuli school of poor officiating.)
Heads up intentional safety at the end of the game for the Saints.
Once again, the offense [...]

“Character and resiliency”…

…is what Norv Turner answered when asked what he believes the team’s strengths are right now in his press conference following the upset win by Miami last week.  Character, yes, I have repeatedly argued that.  But the resiliency doesn’t seem to be there as it was last season when the Bolts started out 1-3, made [...]

Shawne Merriman has participated in practices all week and says that his knee feels the same as it did last December, during the Chargers’ playoff run.   Antonio Gates and Jamal Williams have practiced all week as well and are slated to start Sunday.  Nick Hardwick and Marcus McNeill are the only players who have not practiced [...]

Notes from Training Camp

Friday ushered in what is known in San Diego as “Christmas in July” - or the start of training camp.  Of course, expectations were sky high, as the team won its division the last 3 or 4 years, and barely missed 2 trips to the Super Bowl as a result of the Cheatriots, er Patriots [...]

Player Spotlight - WR/Special Teamer Kassim Osgood

It’s time again for some interesting factoids.  This time…special teams ace Kassim Osgood, who has made the Pro Bowl the past two years for the Chargers.
1.  Born May 20, 1980 in Boston, MA, and grew up in Salinas, CA.
2.  Attended (my grad school alma mater) San Diego State University, where, in 2002, he was the country’s [...]

The Chargers have announced their preseason schedule:
Home vs. Dallas Cowboys (Saturday, August 9th); at St. Louis Rams (August 15-17th, TBD); home vs. Seattle Seahawks  (Monday, August 25th); and at San Francisco 49ers (Friday, August 29th - my birthday!!)

Other News…
Restricted free agent (and roundoff-backflip king) LB Marques Harris and exclusive rights free agent CB Cletis Gordon have both signed 1-year [...]

The Chargers released WR coach James Lofton after 6 seasons in San Diego and hired ex-Charger, WR great and all-time franchise leader (so far) Charlie Joiner!  Joiner is pleased to be back in San Diego, to say the least.  Since leaving the Bolts in 1991 he has spent the past 16 years coaching in Kansas City and Buffalo.
Also fired is [...]

Once again, Chargers 17, Titans 6
O.K., where to start?  How about with Chris Chambers, who had his best game of the season in his first career playoff game (bet he’s glad he left Miami!) with 6 catches for 121 yds, with his 3rd-and-10, 39-yd clutch reception in the 4th quarter which kept alive the drive [...]
