There were some great individual performances tonight for sure.
Rookie K/P Billy Vinnedge (from Wyoming) was team hero-for-a-day when he made a “pressure-filled 41-yard with big stakes on the line.” What stakes, you might ask (I know I did.) Well, if he made it, Coach Turner said he’d cancel evening meetings for the team. When Vinnedge nailed it, he was hailed by riotous, appreciative cheers.
QB Philip Rivers said his knee felt good after his impressive Saturday start against Dallas; 5-for-6, 54 yds, and both drives culminating with Chargers TDs. Even Norv Turner expressed his satisfaction with Rivers’ amazing comeback.
First of all, I’m very impressed with the running game sans LT thus far. Darren Sproles and rookies Mike Tolbert and Jacob Hester all scored in the first half, illustrating the tremendous depth San Diego has on the ground. Lo and behold, the Chargers did some fancy footwork, trading a 5th round pick in this year’s draft (#160) and a 2nd round pick in the 2009 draft to mortal enemy New England for the chance to select LSU RB Jacob Hester (a distant cousin of Terry Bradshaw, no less) with the 69th pick overall.
