The axman came, and he wasn’t very nice.  Among the players released by the Chargers in order to make the 53-man roster requirement are:  LB Antwan Applewhite, LB Eric Bakhtiari, WR Gary Banks, S Tra Battle (even after the 2 INTs Saturday night), CB Josh Bell, TE Wade Betschart, S Brian Bonner, RB Eldra Buckley (even […]

In order to get the roster down to the requisite 75, the Chargers released the following players:
P/K Billy Vinnedge (wow, and he got a blog from me!)
TE John Tereshinski
QB Casey Bramlet
WR Billy Pittman
WR Marco Thomas
After Friday’s game in San Francisco to end the preseason, the roster must be trimmed to 53 by Saturday 8/30.  On […]

RIP Gene Upshaw

Hall of Fame lineman and President of the NFL Players Association Gene Upshaw lost his brief battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was only 63.  Upshaw played his illustrious 15-year career with the Oakland Raiders, went to 7 pro bowls, and won 2 Super Bowls.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew and respected him.

…well, except for postseason if New England makes it.
John Lynch is now a Patriot.  Whereas I thought only old Chargers went to New England to die, I guess they’ve extended membership to anyone in the AFC West.  Must be REALLY scared of the Chargers’ talent this year!!  Was nice to see Tampa Bay beat them […]

Preseason Week 2 - Chargers 6, Rams 7 (yawn)

While this game wasn’t a nailbiter (although, seriously, what preseason games really are?), the Chargers showed some real defensive prowess.
Marc Bulger was intercepted on his first two drives - by CBs Cletus Gordon and Antoine Cason.  Additionally DT Lamar Divens and LB Jyles Tucker each forced a fumble.  LB Tim Dobbins and Tucker were each […]

Pro-Bowl future-hall-of-fame FB Lorenzo Neal signed with the Ravens today.  I’m sure starting RB Willis McGahee is stoked as Neal’s streak of blocking for 1,000-yd rushers has gone on for 11 consecutive years, over 6 teams…and counting!
The Ravens were all happy to have him.  Coach John Harbaugh said that everyone knows and respects Neal.  “All […]

Apparently NY Jets fans have nothing better to do than to purchase #4 Favre jerseys.  Sale of these jerseys set an all-time record for jerseys sold in one day.  Whoop de doo!
Two people NOT buying them (well, 3 if you include me) are Chad Pennington, who was released today to make room for “the aged […]

Hey Charger fans!  Get your Monday Night Football tickets - 9/22 vs. the New York Jets now, because…..SPOILER ALERT….Brett Favre has been traded by Green Bay to the J…E…T…S…JETS…JETS…JETS.
You can check out the details here.
Basically, depending on Favre’s performance, the ‘conditional’ draft pick Green Bay will get can vary from a 4th rounder to a 1st […]

Anyone else sick to death of the whole Favre situation?  First he retires after much deliberation.  Then he decides he wants to play and throws a virtual temper tantrum large enough to rival any 2-year old to get his job back.  Declining a ridiculous $20-million “bribe” to stay retired, not to mention forcing the Packers […]

RIP Terrence Kiel

Former Chargers’ safety and Texas A&M alumnus Terrence Kiel was killed in an automobile accident on 4 July after slamming his 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo into a wall at “a high rate of speed” after leaving a party at former teammate Stephen Cooper’s house in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego.
Kiel was cut from the Chargers […]
